Why Dissidia Will Be On the PSP Instead of the PS2

Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki, through PSPHyper, has some information about the nature of Dissidia and why the decision to bring it to PSP rather than the PS2 was made. Yousuke Shiokawa and his team seem to be a focal point behind this game and it was decided that their expertise was "the best way to gather all the characters from the Final Fantasy series".

Before Crisis Coming to PSP?

Although Square Enix haven't been on hand to confirm much of anything, Next-Gen reporter and all round nice guy Tim Rogers recently reported in their Square Enix Party roundup that the title, originally only seen on mobile phones in Japan, will be making it's way to the PSP console.

"...this cute little action-RPG set in the popular FFVII world will finally find its true audience when it's released on PSP..."

If this is true, the title is almost guaranteed to see a visual overhaul to bring it in line with the PSP's technological capabitilities. More exciteing for fans though, is the possibility that a conversion of the game onto Sony's handheld makes the chances of a English language release very high indeed.

Dissidia Section Added

I've added an exclusive section for the upcoming PSP title Final Fantasy Dissidia. Because we know next to nothing about the game at this point, the section is a little sparse, but you will find the latest magazine scans, the game's logo, and the first released (albeit fuzzy) screenshots.

Click here to visit the Dissida section!

Final Fantasy 4 DS Screenshots Added

Ah, our first look at a remake of another classic: Final Fantasy IV for the Nintendo DS. After the great success and critical acclaim of Final Fantasy 3 DS, I have high hopes for this one.

These first few screenshots have actually been pulled from magazine stories, but it's all we've got for now.

Final Fantasy 13 Delayed...I Think

Firstly, reporting on content at the Square Party, nothing hugely new was shown - a trailer was shown in the closed theatre (not released to the public still), which showed the blonde-haired male we've seen summon some kind of monster. A few new scenes of Lightning fighting were shown, Cocoon was given some more screen-time, yet nothing huge.

As for Nomura's Versus 13, nothing of particular interest happened, except the Jump Festa trailer was shown and extended. We still haven't seen the original version yet - which apparently features the title's protagonist teleporting around a battlefield using his swords, cutting down many enemy soldiers - so don't expect to see this any time soon.

Not content with annoying fans just a little, word has hit GameSpot that Final Fantasy 13 itself might not even be released this year. Reportedly, Yoichi Wada has told press that "It will take a bit more time," and to not expect it this fiscal year - so the earliest it can now be released is probably Summer 2008 for Japan.

I'll update here when/if Square has anything to say on the record.
